International Archives Day 2021

On June 9, 2021, the International Archives Day was celebrated, marking the opening of the exhibition “Run upon the waves of the dreadful sea. 1821: The Struggle at Sea.”
The exhibition was co-organized by the Eugenides Foundation and the General State Archives (GAK), within the framework of the 1821–2021 Initiative. Rare archival documents and museum artifacts from the GAK highlighted the historical course and the decisive contribution of maritime activity as a force of upheaval during the period 1821–1827, as well as its adventurous journeys through emblematic figures of the naval struggle for independence.
The archival material was complemented by innovative technological applications and three-dimensional models of warships that participated in the Battle of Navarino. These were developed במסגרת the NAFS Project, coordinated by the Eugenides Foundation, with scientific supervision by the School of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering of the National Technical University of Athens. In addition, digital and virtual applications were created by the Information Technologies Institute (ITI) through the EPANASTASIS-1821 Project.
