International Archives Day 2022
The General Archives of the State (GAK), to celebrate the International Day of Archives, made a small tribute to the many, smaller or larger adventures of the rescue of the archives in Greece.
For the needs of the dedication, documents from the archives and collections of the GAK some of the documents mentioned in the efforts to protect the archives of the official authorities, already from the time of the struggle for independence, letters were presented. The anxieties, thoughts and fears of emblematic personalities about their fate but also the decades-long efforts to save the archival wealth of the country. These are just some of the mosaics that make up the laborious effort of some people to get the country’s archives the place they deserve.
Rescue stories do not, of course, stop at the beginning of the 20th century. The goal of the GAK was for this small tribute to be the beginning of a wider one that will reach the recent past.
