Ionian University - Department of Archival, Librarianship & Museology
The Department of Archives, Library Science and Museology of the Ionian University specializes in issues related to Archival Science, Library Science, Museology and, more broadly, the field of Information Science. The Department began operating in the academic year 1993–1994 and aims to provide students with comprehensive theoretical and practical training in all areas related to the theory of books, archival records, objects of museum value and, more generally, information and information collections, whether in conventional or digital form, as well as in the creation, organization, classification, management and utilization of collections of library, archival or other types of material and information.
The ultimate objective is the training of the human resources necessary for staffing all kinds of public and private libraries, archival services, museums, documentation centers and information services.
In addition to specialized knowledge and skills, the Department provides its students with general education and information technology knowledge, which are considered essential for developing scientists capable of understanding and properly applying their specialized knowledge, both as professionals and as researchers in related scientific fields.
Facilities
The Department is housed on the second floor of the newly built and modern building of the Ionian University, located at 72 Ioannou Theotoki Street. The modern building facilities include four specially designed teaching classrooms, faculty offices, the Secretariat, two computer laboratories and three laboratories serving the research and educational needs of the Department.
In addition, courses are held in two amphitheaters located on the ground floor of the building.
The Department’s computer laboratories are fully equipped with computers, printers and modern peripheral equipment. Through the laboratory systems, access is also provided to the University network and to a wide range of additional services, such as Internet access and the digital services of the Hellenic Academic Libraries Link (HEAL-Link), among others.
The laboratories of the Department are supported by specialized scientific staff to assist in laboratory work and ensure their smooth operation.
The Department of Archives, Librarianship & of the Ionian University He specializes in issues of archival, librarianship, museology and information science in general. In addition to special knowledge and skills, the Department provides its students with general education knowledge and IT knowledge, which are considered necessary for the formation of scientists capable of understanding and correctly using their specialized knowledge, both as professionals and as researchers in relevant scientific sectors.
Facilities:

The modern building facilities include four specially designed classrooms, the teachers’ offices, the secretariat, two IT laboratories and three Research and educational needs of the Department.
Also, classes are held in the two auditoriums, which are located on the ground floor of the building.
The Department’s IT laboratories are fully equipped with computers, printers and modern peripheral equipment. Also, through the systems of the IT Laboratory, access is provided to the University’s network and to a multitude of additional services (access to the Internet, access to the digital services of the Association of Greek Academic Libraries, Heal-Link, etc.).
The Department’s laboratories have special scientific staff to support their work and smooth operation.
University of Western Attica - Department of Librarianship & Information Systems
The Department of Archives, Library Science and Information Systems of the University of West Attica is the oldest department in the academic field of Information Science and constitutes the natural continuation of the respective department that operated at the Technological Educational Institute (TEI) of Athens from 1977 to 2018.
The Department aims to provide high-quality education with the ultimate goal of training Archivists, Librarians and Information Scientists with a high level of knowledge and skills.
The studies offered by the Department include all branches of the traditional Information Sciences (Library Science, Archival Science, Museology, Documentation), which, under the decisive influence of technology, are integrated into the broader framework of Information Management.
Its subject area includes the identification, collection, processing, organization and dissemination of information, regardless of the medium in which it is recorded.
Following international developments, the Department examines cultural, scientific, administrative and business information within a unified theoretical and applied framework, utilizing modern technologies.
The Department of Archival, Librarianship and Information Systems of the University of Western Attica, is the oldest department in the knowledge field of Information Science and is a natural evolution of the similar department, which operated in T.E.I. Athens from 1977 to 2018.
The Department aims to provide quality education with the ultimate goal of creating archivists, librarians and information scientists with a high level of knowledge and skills.
Studies in the department include all branches of traditional information sciences (librarianship, archival, museology, documentation), which, with the decisive influence of technology, are integrated into the wider context of information management (information management). TEI Thessaloniki - Department of Librarianship & Information Systems
The TEI of Thessaloniki – Department of Library Science & Information Systems was founded in 1984.
The studies offered by the Department of Library Science cover the field of searching, collecting, processing, organizing, managing and disseminating information, as well as the media used for recording knowledge, with emphasis on the use of information technology.
They also include methods for the organization and management of libraries and information services in both the private and public sectors.
In addition, the Department provides consulting services to interested organizations on matters related to the organization and operation of libraries.
The TEI Thessaloniki – Department of Librarianship & Information Systems It was founded in 1984.
The studies in the Department of Librarianship cover the subject of the search, collection, processing, organization, management and dissemination of information, as well as the means of recording knowledge, with an emphasis on the use of information technology. They also cover methods of organizing and managing libraries and information services in the private and public sectors.
In addition, the Department provides stakeholders with consulting services in matters of organization and operation of libraries.
