EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS
Generally
The General Archives of the State implement educational programs for all levels of education by connecting their rich archival material with the curricula. The programs use as a teaching approach the team-collaborative, active learning using archival sources, experiential and discovery-exploratory learning.
The students, through the implementation of the educational activities, aim to:
- to gain archival consciousness,
- to become familiar with the concepts of archive and archival material,
- develop skills to search for information from archives,
- to realize the changes that take place over time and their importance in people’s daily lives,
- to practice description and narration,
- to cultivate critical thinking by making associations,
- To acquire knowledge through exploratory learning.
The training programs of the GIS are provided free of charge and can be implemented in the classroom or in the premises of the Central Service of the GAK. The programs are carried out by the Department of Promotion, Communication and Educational Actions of the GAS in collaboration with the teachers of the school unit.
For the implementation of the programs, prior communication with the Display Department is necessary: Phone: 2106782270 Email: publicrelations@gak.gr
The GAKs implement Educational Programs, in collaboration with the teaching professors of each educational level with the aim of renewing and enriching the content of school knowledge and the learning process.
They contribute to the familiarization of teachers with modern teaching methods and to the upgrading of their teaching work and role, with a different approach to knowledge creating new learning environments because they contribute:
(a) the qualitative differentiation of the school climate, based only on the material of the textbooks;
b) In the expansion of the horizons of teachers and students, who cooperate and exchange opinions in a specific thematic tribute each time,
(c) the development of a spirit of collectivity;
(d) the connection between the school and a wider social environment in the development of new interactive teaching methods and tools in relation to the primary archival material, and with the ultimate goal:
1. the development of the students’ compositional and critical abilities, on the way they perceive history, by “interpreting” the past and the present themselves,
2. The formation of personal documented interpretations of the students as they are asked to comment on their identification or rejection in relation to historical and social events, as they are reflected in the archival evidence.
The areas in which the programs are applied meet all the necessary safety and hygiene conditions and are equipped with audio-visual means, while there is also the possibility of access to students with mobility problems.
The GAS invites teachers who are interested in working together to implement specific educational activities to communicate:
A. with the Department of Promotion, Communication and Educational Actions, to plan their visit to the Central Service.
