PROGRAM TITLE: ‘Athanassios Diakos: a hero of 1821 in my city’ (Lamia 2021-2022)
Who is it for?
Programma-2 is aimed at students of the 5th and 6th grades of Primary School and the first grades of High Schools of N. Fthiotida. Indicative ages 9-14.
Venue:
Programma-2 will be implemented outdoors in Diakos Square, in front of the statue of Athanasios Diakos and at the end of the presentation, the students will have the opportunity to visit the hero’s cenotaph on Kalyva Bakoyannis Street.
Duration: 45 minutes
General Goals:
Familiarity with the history of my place. Recognition of the value of the monuments and heroes of 1821.
Purpose of the program:
The purpose of the program is for the children to get to know the monuments of the city that are connected to the hero of the revolution of 1821 Athanasios Diakos and to be able to recognize through the images of their daily life the value of the monuments as historical points of reference and as works of art.
Objectives and skills:
To understand that the monuments preserve their identity over time as points of reference of important historical events and as works of art that represent their time and artistic creation. To familiarize the students with the history of the events hidden in the monuments of their daily life and to understand the concepts of research using sources such as they arise from searching in archival material and collective catalogs of books, newspapers, etc. available to organizations such as the general archives of the state and libraries.
How to present the program:
For the presentation of the program which will be done outdoors, the instructors will have the opportunity to show the students images that will accompany their narration and through interaction, questions-answers, to complete the thematic sections of the program.
Activities – Games:
Crossword (keywords, monument, Athanasios Diakos, creator’s name, square, revolution, etc etc) Cryptoword (similar in another form) Puzzle with the photo of the statue in collaboration with the class teacher The children when they return to school They can render on an A4 paper with a pencil or any other material they want a snapshot of the statue of Athanasios Diakos as each imagined in time (example, the time it was set up, during the Second World War, as described by their grandparents Or their parents, as they are today, in a festive moment etc, etc.). The works of each class can be sent to the library or to the GAS and then published on the websites of the agencies.
