The Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki and the GSA-HAM Cartographic Heritage Archive, on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the 1821 Revolution, have designed the educational program “A Map, a Coin, a Story for Freedom” for 5th and 6th grade primary school students, as part of the periodic exhibition of the AMTh “For a Flame that Burns. Antiquities and Memory, Thessaloniki – Macedonia [1821-2021]”.
The educational program focuses on the abundant ancient Greek and medieval coins and medals that Rigas scattered in every blank space of the large Map of Greece, “for a faint knowledge of Archaeology”.
Within the framework of the same collaboration, the ΑΧαΚ presents a series of digital games and worksheets, as well as accompanying material for the teacher, addressed to primary and secondary school students. This series of activities aims at an introduction to the Map of Greece, this great monument of the Neohellenic Enlightenment, a high-aesthetic educational tool that warmed souls, mobilized minds, gave vision, and ultimately contributed in its way to the Struggle for Independence in 1821.
