Activities

One of the primary objectives of the General State Archives of Greece (GSA) is the organisation of scholarly and other cultural activities, with the aim of promoting the work of the GSA and highlighting the role of archives as an integral part of the country’s historical and cultural identity.

At the GSA – Rodopi Regional Archives, events are organised that are accompanied by exhibitions of archival material and lectures, as well as conferences, one-day symposia and other scholarly activities of a local character.

INTERNATIONAL ARCHIVES DAY

A characteristic example of an outward-looking initiative and of the GSA’s connection with the international archival community—ultimately aiming to raise public awareness on archival matters—is the celebration of International Archives Day, on 9 June each year.

Every year, the GSA across Greece organises a series of events, highlighting the usefulness of archives in society and enabling citizens to discover and become familiar with the wealth preserved in archives, which constitute unique records of cultural heritage.

Each year, the Service’s activities are communicated to the International Council on Archives (ICA).
